The chewing gum granulate can be used to achieve prolonged or delayed release of medicament. Furthermore, a sweet chewing gum core can be surrounded with a mantle contg. a bitter active ingredient; in this case, the initial bitter flavour becomes overlaid with the sweetness of the chewing gum, which is more acceptable than the usual case of an initially sweet flavour accompanied by a bitter aftertaste. The chewing gum granulate may contain the active ingredient, or the chewing gum granulate may be compressed together with a conventional tabletting granulate contg. the active ingredient. In an alternative formulation, the tablet may be in several layers, some of which may consist of conventional tabletting granulates.
