Polyamides such as nylon or polycaprolactam are bonded to metal, for example steel, by coating the metal with an epoxy resin, a hardener and a polyamide powder, coating the polyamide with a "resorcin adhesive," i.e. a solution of the polyamide in resorcinol or a solution thereof, methanol or other organic solvent, contacting the coated surfaces and allowing the resin to harden, preferably without pressure and at room temperature. The metal surface may be cleaned with trichlorethylene and/or roughened by sandblasting, before coating.</p> |
