<PICT:1015444/C1/1> <PICT:1015444/C1/2> In the formation of hollow glass fibres in which glass is drawn through orifices 12 in a bushing 10, communicating with a source of molten glass, the hollow tubes 36 through which a gas under pressure is fed, extend through the orifices 12 to a distance not less than 0.030 inches and not more than 0.066 inches beyond the orifices. The glass is melted electrically directly above a plate 32 with perforations 32a and orifices 34, directly above each orifice 12, through which the hollow tubes 36 pass, and are thereby aligned. The gas pressure and rate of drawing may be varied to give the required inner and outer diameter of fibres. Size may be applied before the fibres are grouped into a strand.
