The cylinder of the spring comprises at one end thereof a fluid closure assembly through which gas is introduced into the cylinder; the assembly comprising a cylindrical plug 18 having a peripheral groove 32 in which is seated a ring seal 38, and a radially inwardly directed blind bore 34 intersecting the groove just axially inwardly thereof, and passage means (the clearance round the plug) communicating the plug ends with the blind bore whereby on introduction of gas under pressure through the passage means from the exterior end of the plug, the gas forces a respective part of the ring seal into the blind bore to provide access past that portion of the seal to the interior end of the plug and whereby, on cessation of the introduction of the gas, internal gas pressure acting on the ring seal then forces the respective part of the ring seal back into said peripheral groove. The plug ends are chamfered and knurled (36) to facilitate introduction of the gas to the clearance round the plug. <IMAGE> |
