The appts. testing a lifting appliance has a test lever (1) which is frictionally connectable to the drive and braking shaft (2) of the lifting appliance. When the lever arm has a specific length, a pressure cylinder (10) hinged fixedly at one end engages on the test lever. The pivot point on the test lever may be longitudinally adjustable. The lever may carry a scalle graduation. It may also have clamping jaws (3, 4) for connection to the shaft of the appliance.
