New haemostatic medicaments for introduction into and packing of cavities in living bodies contain a foam-forming substance and a propellant gas. The Haemostatic agents are partic. for stopping bleeding in human body cavities, e.g. in nasal passages or cavities, ears, the uterus, or even the gastrointestinal tract. The effectiveness of the medicament is attributed to the cooling effect of the foam, which causes vasoconstriction and therefore reduces blood flow and stops bleeding. The vasoconstricting effect is also useful in localising the effects of local anaesthetics, so that the compsns. are also useful as carriers for local anaesthetic agents.
