A conventional refuse vehicle, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), in which refuse is compressed, has a dipper, comprising members 31 to 35, pivoted about a horizontal axis through the point to swing a dust bin 40 to empty it into the vehicle, which is provided with suction cups 39 to grip the bin. The vehicle engine provides the vacuum from its inlet manifold by way of an intermediate tank (not shown) which has an airfilter to protect the engine. The suction cups 39 are provided with valve devices, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), to prevent loss of vacuum when the cups are not in contact with a bin or other article, and with sealing lips 40a, Fig. 5 (not shown), to enable rough articles to be gripped. The cups 39 are pivoted on arms 37 which may be attached at convenient locations 56, Fig. 3 (not shown).</p> |
