1494060 Plate heat exchangers CHAFFOTEAUX ET MAURY 12 July 1976 [10 July 1975] 28939/76 Addition to 1430491 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger of the kind described in the parent Specification, sealing between adjacent peripherally flanged circular plates 1 of the stacked is effected by means of a resilient sealing gasket 30 comprising a first sealing ring 31 disposed around the inner periphery of the flanged rim 3 of each plate 1 and a second sealing ring 32 surrounding the larger collar 13 of each plate opening 11. Preferably the two rings are integral with one another and constitute a one piece sealing gasket 30. The plate stack with the interposed sealing gaskets is held in a compressed state by clamping means comprising threaded rods 37 passing through holes 35, 36 in end plates 33, 34 bounding the stack; the end plates maybe triangular in shape. In a modified form of sealing gasket (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), the sealing ring 32 surrounding each collar 12 is formed with V-shaped annular grooves (39) in the opposite faces thereof contacting the base portions of adjacent plates, said grooves (39), together with a radially extending notch (40) in the common portion of the two rings 31, 32 and the interstice (41) between the interfitting rims (3) of the two adjacent plates in question, defining a flow path for venting leakage fluid to atmosphere and so prevent possible intermixing of the two heat exchange fluids. |
