PURPOSE:To improve the yield of production of the composite rod in the case of cold rolling of plural raw metallic rods into a composite metallic rod, by heating and cooling the composite rod after passing the reduction roll, and then, by loading a bending force on a part (or whole) of the faying boundary surface of the composite rod. CONSTITUTION:The rod of base metal 1 and the rod of clad metal 2 are respectively uncoiled from the coiler, are cleaned by the wire brushes 4a, 4b, and are simultaneously rolled by the reduction roll 5 into the composite rod 3. Next, this composite rod 3 is treated with thermal diffusion by the thermal diffusion treater 10 provided with the heating zone 8 and cooling zone 9, for further improving the joint strength of the faying boundary surfaces 7a-c in the composite rod 3; after that, a bending test is carried out by the bending jig 11 consisting of V-type rolls 13, 14, and then, the composite rod 3 is straightened by the straightening roll 12 into the flat rod, and is coiled by the coiler 6. According to this method, the quality of joint of the composite rod can be grasped in the line; hence, when a defect happens in the joint, this information is at once sent out as the feedback to the pretreatment work, rolling work, etc., and the suitable countermeasure can be taken.
