A false floor of plates of an acid-proof synthetic material, esp. of a low pressure polyethylene, replaces those used previously for animal stalls and esp. for pigsties. Floors formed by wire or cast metal grids have disadvantages arising both from their lack of resistance to the acids in the disinfectants used and from their heat conductivity as well as from the ease with which the sows can injure their udders. Rubber mats are expensive, make disinfection difficult and have only a short lifetime. The synthetic plates forming the false floor are supported some distance above the foundation and have openings for excreta and liquids generally. The openings are elongated, parallel to each other and are aligned in the direction in which the animals lie. The upper edges of the openings are rounded.
|
