Power factor correction capacitor circuit for single phase - operates with independent supply for charge reversal of idle compensator

In a single phase compensator for power factor correction the AC capacitor (3) remains in a charged state when the switch (5) connecting it to the network (2) is opened by the control system (6). When it is switched OFF the capacitor is in a standby state, but periodic reversal of the charge is necessary to preserve the properties of the dielectric. Reversal, at a fraction of supply frequency, is effected by connecting the capacitor alternately to a DC source of opposite polarity (8, 9) through a special switch (7). By this means the periodic reversal charge is not drawn from the network which therefore remains undisturbed.
