<p>The Mg salt of formula (I), prepd. by reacting with stirring the corresp. acid and Mg (OH)2 in presence of water is new. (I) combines the vitamin B6 activity of the pyridoxal-5-phosphate portion with the spasmolytic, sedative and anti-convulsant effects of Mg. (I) is a yellow, odourless, crystalline solid with a bitter taste. It is soluble in acid media, partly soluble in polar hydroxylic solvents and insoluble in apolar solvent. Its Uv spectrum in 0.1 N HCl is identical to that of pyroxal-5-phosphate but its IR spectrum lacks free OH vibrations at 3700 cm-1. (I) does not decompose below 250 degrees C and contains 9.4% Mg (by complexometric titration).</p> |
