Inhibiting lipase with malonic acid di:ester - or O-acyl-tartronic acid di:ester, e.g. for treating obesity and hyperlipaemia

Lipases are inhibited by using as substrate-analogous inhibitors malonic acid diesters (I) or O-acyl-tartronic acid diesters (II). (I) and (II) contain medium-to long-chain alkyl gps. so that their hydrophobic properties are similar to those of the natural triglyceride substrates. Used for medical and industrial purposes and in the food industry, e.g. for treating adiposity or hyperlipaemic and protecting fats on the skin or in foods against microbial spoilage.
