A camera has an adjusting slide 27 sensing the pointer position of an exposure meter by means of a spring, and has a manually adjustable stop 41 rotatable by spring 52 into the path of the pointer 23, the stop being arrested by a spring-loaded, pawl 37 which is operated depending on the tensioning movement of the slide 27 only when the pointer is freed by the slide. Exposure time adjuster 2 has a control cam 3 which, through pivoting lever 13 and push arm 14, communicates with pat cam 15 on the slidable, and rotatable shaft 16 carrying a film speed scale 17. Pin 21 on meter 22 is spring- urged to contact end 19 of shaft 16. Slide 27 and its sensing cam 28 is coupled by spring 29 to clamping slide 30 and moves, guided by screws 31 to clamp pointer 23 against rail 25. A second, indicator cam 4 on adjuster 2 is coupled through lever 5 and spring loaded rod 6 to indication slide 7 movable against exposure seale 10. Lever 35 is moved to the left to cock the shutter and set the diaphragm and, through its engagement with arm 34, carries slide 27 and clamping slide 30 with it. Pointer 23 is then freed. When ring 48 is set to "Auto", pointer 23 acts as stop for the slide 27 when lever 35 has run down to the right. When the ring is set to " Flash" by selecting a diaphragm value, a cam 47 engages and rotates counter-clockwise the lever 46 to move away from pin 44 on stop 41. When the shutter is then cocked as above, lever 35 engages arm 36 at the end of its travel and releases pawl 37. Stop 41 then swings until pin 44 re-engages lever 46. As the shutter is released lever 35 runs down as before until slide 27 and 30 engage pointer 23 in its position, as clamped by stop 41, corresponding to the chosen diaphragm value. Linear 35 is thus halted and the aperture is set.
