The apparatus comprises a vertical chamber (2) having a preceding supply vessel (3). The powder is introduced into the supply vessel (3) through an inlet (14) and, assisted by two conveyor worms (5, 4) driven independently of one another, flows through the chamber (2) into the particular bag (5) connected to the bottom of the latter. The chamber (2) and supply vessel (3) are designed as compactors. For this purpose, the chamber (2) is provided, over most of its height, with a double casing (11), the inner wall (10) of which is air-permeable and which is connected to a suction pump (13). The supply vessel (3) has an identical double-casing zone (16, 15) connected to the same suction pump (13). <IMAGE>
