Amorphous sodium heparin with fibrous structure - suitable for uniform distribution in non-aq. formulations, e.g. ointment or suppository bases

Amorphous Na heparin (I) with fibrous structure and particle dia. 8-40 mu is new. Prodn. of pure (I) in finely-divided form comprises first dissolving (I) in water, then slowly stirring the soln. into a quantity of water-soluble precipitant (II) at least equal to the amt. of water. After sedimentation, the ppte. is filtered off, washed with fresh (II) and dried. (II) must be a poor solvent for (I); esp. useful is isopropanol used at 5-10 times the amt. of water. Prepn. is pref. carried out at room temp. (I) has antiphlogistic and tissue-regenerating activities and also modifies the clotting behavior of the blood. In this new form, which is very pure and easily filtered, small quantities can be uniformly distributed in non-aq. media, e.g. ointments or suppositories for treating haemorrhoids.
