<p>PURPOSE:Control unit drives hydraulic cylinder to operate a pair of vertical rolls to provide either a constant rolling thickness or a constant rolling pressure. This constructional mechanism provides a compact, high-accuracy, vertical rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:First, a rolling steel plate 1 is relatively thick and substanially constant in width and has a property such that little buckling or local swelling may be caused. When rolling such material, an extension is detected on the piston rod 11c installed on the hydraulic cylinder 11, then the oil drive unit is actuated so as to eliminate the deviation between the preset signal and the signal of the position detector 12 which detects the vertical rolling gap by detecting the extension of the piston rod 11c. Secondly, when rolling a steel material having contrary properties, the oil drive unit is actuated to eliminate the deviation between the preset signal and the signal of the pressure detector 13 which detects a vertical rolling pressure by detecting hydraulic pressure of back pressure chamber at extension side of the hydraulic cylinder 11. Thus, a pair of vertical rolls 8,8' maintains the preset pressure for rolling operation.</p> |
