REGENERATING ION-EXCHANGE RESIN IN WATER TREATMENT PROCESS

The process comprises contacting the water with the resin which is regenerated by countercurrent contact with hot water in a regeneration vessel. Of the hot water used, 50-90% is withdrawn as a hot salt effluent at an exit intermediate between the resin inlet and outlet. The rest of the water is cooled in heat exchanger and is withdrawn by an exit after countercurrent contact with the resin introduced. The process enables a substantial increase in the salt content of the effluent above that obtd. in normal functioning. The pref. amt. of hot water withdrawn at the intermediate exit is 55.75%.
