<p>1311988 Character recognition INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 22 Oct 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 50100/70 Heading G4R A character recognition system comprises means for providing characteridentifyingsignals representative of a recognized character, and means controlled by a signal indicating that the recognition was valid for providing signals representative of the position of the recognized character on a document, the identifying signals and position signals being transmitted sequentially. Scanning of the document (i.e. field selection) is controlled by a control word from a CPU channel. If a recognition unit fed from the scanner recognises a valid character, the scanner beam horizontal position voltage is saved in a track hold circuit and converted into a position byte by an A-to-D converter. The recognition unit provides a character byte representing the character identity. A "channel ready" signal from the CPU channel starts a ring clock to gate the character byte to the CPU channel, followed (if the control word indicated that the position was required) by the position byte, over a common bus. The invention can be applied to the systems of Specifications 1,2181,267 and 1,281,268 (referred to) and is useful in reading shoe order forms.</p> |
