<p>During predetermined working phases in the operation of a circular knitting machine, the end needles of an arc of needles, are put separately and consecutively out of action and/or are again brought back into action. The needles put out of action being brought into a lowered position of rest. Whilst the needles are being put out of action and/or are being brought back into action, they are at least once, brought into an intermediate leve. In this position the stitches formed previously are still in the proximity of the needle opening, and they have not yet slipped over the latch on to the shaft. The end needles are consequently able to take the thread from the guide in the zone into which they are pushed, without the previous old stitches being drawn down. The needles to be put out of action are raised to the intermediate level mentioned, twice, before being lowered to their position of rest. The quality of the goods is improved and productivity is increased.</p> |
