The gear pump has housing with pump chamber accommodating two engaging gear wheels. The housing has inlet and outlet openings and gear wheel drive. The drive is not subjected to high axial loads ehn the pumping pressure at the pump is increased. The drive (30) has an axial end face exposed to the liquid pressure within the housing (35). The end is isolated against the pressure in the pump chamber (37). This isolation arrangement consists of a first seal (36) between the housing (35) and the rotating components consisting of drive (30) and the gear wheel (32) a second seal separates a chamber connected to low pressure channel.
