An electric plug has a multi-section housing. It contains a contact carrier (support) and is designed to accommodate various voltages by using a large combination of connections. Different voltages can be connected in one and the same plug, and the same connection elements can be used for both plug and socket. The contact carrier consists of several contact segments (1) which the contact elements are fastened such that these contact segments have alternate projections (4, 5) and indentations on their lateral edge strips. The projections and indentations grip into complementary slots and protrusions formed in the inner wall of the housing of the adjacent contact segment and are retained like a tongue-and-groove joint.
