Periodic drive for engine accessory - has spring-loaded levers acting via cam surface to exert counter-torque on drive shaft

An accessory is driven by an engine, a cam (1) being rigidly mounted on the drive shaft of the engine. Two spring-loaded levers (2) act via rollers (5) against the cam surface. The shape of the cam and the positions on the levers on which the springs act, are chosen so that the levers exert a counter torque on the shaft. The counter torque always reduces the torque exerted by the shaft to an average value, at any angular position of the shaft.
