The grinding disc is for attachment by an adhesive to the plate of a rotary or swinging grinding machine and does not tear round the edges when sudden loads are applied, e.g. by striking a rivet. It also is easily removed when worn out so that a new disc can be laid perfectly flat on to the plate. When fitted to foam rubber cylinders, the edge of the new disc does not tend to cut grooves in the workpieces if it is not handled correctly. The disc has on its rear face a reinforcing layer of a fleible, pref. textile, material. This projects 2 to 5 mm beyond the edge of the paper backing. The reinforcing disc is a woven fabric of synthetic threads with a canvas or twill construction.
