The drive device for operating a sliding door on a vehicle is esp. for an overhead suspension railway cabin, with door moving with running rollers on vehicle-mounted running-rail, or similar. The door leaf is attached to a continuous toothed belt made of noise-deadening, wear-resistant material, by means of a connecting arm. The belt is stretched between a driving wheel and a pulley wheel and may be fitted with trigger cams to activate end or safety switches. The structure is simple and compact, and little maintenance is needed.
