1376819 Handling thin material BELOIT CORP 6 April 1972 [22 April 1971] 15985/72 Heading B8R A non-rotatable web spreader roll comprises a bowable shaft 11, means for adjustably bowing the shaft, and a plurality of equal diameter, axially aligned cylindrical rings 28 fixed to the shaft in spaced fashion to permit bowing of the shaft whilst preventing relative rotation between the shaft and rings. The shaft may be part split by a slit 12 leading to a cavity 17 which locates a pin 16. The pin is urged by hydraulic pressure applied to a ram 26 against the end 18 of the cavity wall on one side only of the slit thereby bowing the shaft. The rings 28 may have air nozzles at their outer cylindrical surfaces, communicating with compressed air conduits in the shaft for establishing an air film between a web and the spreader roll. The spreader roll is used to spread webs (8), Fig. 1 (not shown), longitudinally cut from a web on a roll (1), by knives (2) and wound on individual rolls (6) driven in contact with supporting drive rollers (4), (5). |
