Thus, copper ions in the waste soln. reach cathode 8 through cation diaphragm 3 and deposit as metallic copper powder. At this time, the pH of cathode chamber 6 is adjusted to 0.5-2.0 by adding acid. Anions formed by the electrolysis reach anode 7 through anion diaphragm 2 and are regenerated as acid. This acid is returned to vessel 9 through discharge pipe 13.
