<p>The material consists of >=2 of three solid systems:- (a) a system with high dielectric polarisability; (b) a system with magnetic properties; (c) >=1 cpd. decomposed by the arc to yield arc-quenching elements. A binder (d) is pref. also used, viz. a polymer and/or a polycondensed resin; or a material (a, b, c) may be a binder; or the binder may be a cold- or hot-setting inorganic cpd. or mixt., or an organic cpd. Material (a) pref. contains the oxides of Ti, Zr, Al, Mg, Sr, Sn, Ba, Ca, Si; whereas material (b) is ferromagnetic metal Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu, cd, Mg, Li, Ga and/or an iron oxide with an oxide of Ba, Ca, Sr, Pb, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Zn and/or a rare earth with Co or Ni. Material (c) is pref. a fluoride, esp. KF, and/or an organic fluoride. The material (a, b, c, d) consists esp. of a crystal phase (1) and an amorphous phase (2), the latter including an oxide with dielectric constant (E) min. 9, so the material has E = 6 min. Used in switch- or spark extinguishing- chambers, for high speed quenching of the arcs.</p> |
