The pieces have a length which is appreciably greater than their breadth or height, and the pieces travel along a horizontal conveyor belt ending in a sloping zone (a) forming a chute guiding the pieces into a vertical shaft (b) above a treatment bath (c). Zone (a) has a slope causing the pieces to slide, and a length greater than the distance of the centre of gravity of the longest workpiece from the end of that piece. The pieces are pref. aligned on the conveyor belt so a defined length of the pieces projects beyond the bottom edge of zone (a). The workpieces are at a uniform temp. when they drop into bath (c).
