Preventing arcing of high tension electric insulators - by placing silicone or ethylene!-propylene! rubber sleeves over the ribs

High tension insulators of glass or china are protected against arcs by protecting them with a sleeve of silicone rubber, EPR or a slightly electrically conductive material. Pref. only the external marginal portions of the insulator ribs are protected by rings of rubber. Rubber sleeves are inexpensive and easy to apply in comparison with e.g. coating with epoxy resins.
