There is a peripheral support frame profile unit, for retention of a pane of glass or similar, and a holder frame connected to this via retainer pieces or battens, making up the frame for a window or door. The holder frame(21) comprises individual profile battens(25), clipped onto angled retainer pieces or retainer battens(31) which have at least one shank(32) fitting against the support frame profile(11). The profile battens abut against each other in the frame corners, and lock onto the retainer pieces or battens outwards from the inside, towards the pane of glass(2). Construction, installation and dismantling are simplified, and water cannot penetrate behind the glazing, even under heavy loading.
