The cooling system is intended for a liquid-cooled combustion engine in which the coolant moves in a closed circuit through the engine block and a cooler (1). The cooler is, at least partly, arranged in a refrigerant circuit (11, 13, 15, 7). The cooler may contain the evaporator (7) of a refrigerant circuit whose condenser (13) is cooled by ambient air. The heat exchanging surfaces (4) of the evaporator may be so arranged relative to the heat exchanging surfaces (4) of a conventional engine water cooler (1) that heat is dissipated to the air supplied by the cooling fan and ram effect as well as to the refrigerant.
