The lifting unit is for instruments which are to be held in a free supporting manner within containers such as in vehicles. There are several cylinders which can move inside each other and they each have three internal spindles. Spindle nuts slide on the spindles and are connected with the next cylinder or the instrument. The spindles turn in the same direction because of gears on the spindles and one of them is driven and transmits its motion via slide shafts and slide gears so that the stroke of the instrument section in the last cylinder corresponds to the sum of the individual strokes of all cylinders.
