1313339 Capsules for mixing and dispensing MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 8 Sept 1970 [9 Sept 1969] 43011/70 Heading A5R [Also in Divisions B1 and F1] A capsule for storing, mixing and administering, e.g. dental fillings, comprises an elongate body 14 with a closed end adapted to displace a seal 20 formed at the end of a sleeve 18 which fits in a large diameter compartment at one end of a hollow second elongate body 22 which has a dispensing tube 26 closed by a plug 28 at its other end. During storage two components of a dental filling such as an amalgam or a resin are contained in compartments 29 and 30 either side of the seal 20. In use the body 14 is pushed into the body 22, e.g. by a lever device as in Fig. 6 (not shown), rupturing the seal 20 and combining the two components in a compartment (33) Fig. 3 (not shown). The movement of the body 14 is limited by a cap 12. The capsule is then agitated to mix the contents. The plug 28 is now removed and the contents dispensed through tube 26 by pushing the body 14 further into the body 22 by a plunger 40 of the tool shown in Fig. 8. The tool has an angled niche 50 which bends tube 26 to aid application. Suitable materials for the seal 20 and the capsule body are disclosed. The capsule may be used too for other two-part products, e.g. adhesives and may have further compartments for products of more than two components. |
