<p>A tool for either removing a multi-pin component from a circuit board or for inserting it therein. The tool comprises a heater body which may, for example, be screwed to a soldering instrument in lieu of a solder tip and an extractor. The heater body has a shape corresponding to that of the pins to be soldered or desoldered; for example, the heater body may consist of two parallel, spaced walls or it may consist of two semicylindrical portions. They are used to heat the solder about the pins of the component. The extractor co-operates with the heater body and is mounted behind the heater body. It is provided with a pair of claws, which may be bifurcated to grip the component, and a pair of spring-urged handles for opening and closing the jaws. A spring may be provided between the extractor and the heater body for urging the extractor away from the heater body, thereby to automatically pull a component from the circuit board after the solder has melted.</p> |
