PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of spare charging to 1/2 by applying the modulation voltage to EL panel through twice application for the data side and the scanning side. CONSTITUTION:As the process of write-in drive for the device constituted in matrix state with the data side electrodes X1 to Xm and the scanning side electrodes Y1 to Yn, first the Vpre a half the modulation voltage is charged up to the full video elements (all the cross points of X and Y electrodes) via the diode array 30. Next, the voltage Vpre is fed to the entire scanning electrodes via the diode arrays 60 and 70 with the charging circuit 110 to increase the potential, and simultaneously, the elements connected to other lines except the selection line Xi among the switching element arrays 40 are turned on. Next, when the write-in voltage Vwa is fed from the circuit 90 to the common line C not connected to the selection line Yj, since the element SSJ is turned on, the video element Eij illuminates. The power consumption for pre-charge is 1/2 CV<2>pre taking the full capacitance between electrodes as C, and it is a half the power CV<2>pre in case that the modulation voltage 2Vpre is applied once from the data side. |
