PURPOSE:To obtain a composite roll having light weight, good wear resistance, and a strong joined face by forming a limited thickness diffusion layer consisting of a specific metal in the boundary part between the peripheral surface of a roll core material on which a cermet is sintered and the cermet. CONSTITUTION:In the boundary part between the peripheral surface of a roll core material made of a cast steel or forged steel and a cermet layer sintered onto the core surface, a 0.1-15mm thick diffusion layer composing of at least one metal selected from among Fe, Ni, Co, Cr, Mo, and W is formed. Therefore, the joining interface becomes strong and the roll is prevented from breaking by using cast or forged steel as a core material. The roll has wear resistance by forming the diffusion layer in the boundary part between the core and the cermet and also has light weight. |
