Hydrothermally hardened perforated bricks contg. lime and a silica-contg., essentially amorphous light-wt. aggregate. Pref. the light-wt. aggregate is amorphous pumice. The perforated bricks have a density =0.8 kg/cm3 and a compressive strength >=2.5 N/mm2, pref. >=5 N/mm2. The perforated bricks are made from a mixt. of 5-15 wt.% lime and 95-85 wt.% amorphous pumice, where the moisture is 10-35%. The pumice contains 30-60 wt.% with a size under 0.2 mm, and 20-50 wt.% under 0.1 mm. The mixt. is pressed in a moulding box fitted with a vibrating punch, after which the pressing is transferred to an autoclave for hardening. Building bricks suitable for internal and external walls are obtd. which have adequate thermal insulation properties and satisfactory compressive strength. The bricks are produced using existing plants.
