Synthetic ester lubricants for aircraft engines - contg. ammonium organo-sulphonate as EP additive

Lubricants for aircraft engines comprise a synthetic ester based oil contg. 0.05-1.0 (pref. 0.1-0.5)wt.% of an oil-soluble ammonium organosulphonate (I) in which the sulphonate gp. contains a 1-26C (pref. 1-18C) hydrocarbon radical and the ammonium gp. is of formula NR1R2R3R4 (where R1-R4 are H or 1-36C hydrocarbyl, provided that >=1 of R1-R4 is 1-36C hydrocarbyl). (I) improve the EP properties of the lubricants (e.g. increasing their load-carrying capacity by 50-240 kg/cm in the Ryder gear test). The lubricants have good compatibility with silicone elastomers and good oxidative stability.
