<p>The feed funnel is fixed to the rotor of the centrifugal machine and has upper and lower frusto-conical sections joined at their narrow ends. A fixed feed spout supplies particulate material into the lower section, opening in the region of its upper, narrow, end. The angles of the cone sections are greater than the angle of friction of the particles on the surfaces, so that the centrifugal force is always greater on the particles than the local frictional resistance. Pref. the device forms part of a vacuum centrifugal pulveriser having a rotor in the form of a disc contg. radial passages which project material outwardly on to pulverising targets. The device opens into the centre of the disc and has deflectors extending inwardly of the lower section between these radial passages to ensure that material is guided into them. The device can be used for very high speed centrifugal machines such as pulverisers as well as centrifugal separators for solids or solid/liq. mixtures. Clogging of the feed funnel due to centrifugal forces compacting the material on the rotating surface is avoided, avoiding in turn the risk of material being ejected from the top of the machine at high speed.</p> |
