PURPOSE:To obtain the title sheet of high strength or the like by adding boric acid to graphite treated with an acid or an oxidizing agent after which the graphite is heat treated at high temp. and press formed to uniformly disperse a small amt. of boric acid as adhesive without mechanically breaking the heat treated graphite. CONSTITUTION:Graphitic substance such as natural graphite is treated with an acid such as sulfuric acid, an oxidizing agent such as KMnO4 or their mixt. Boric acid is dissolved in a solvent such as water in an amt. of 0.1-30, esp. 1-10wt% to the amt. of the treated graphite, and the graphite is dipped in the soln. The dipped graphite is dried naturally or by heating and heated to a temp. above the b.p. of the solvent to remove the solvent. By drastically heat treating the boric acid-dispersed graphite at above 600, e.g. 1100-1300 deg.C for 1-10 sec, heat treatd graphite is obtd. having a bulk density of 0.05-0.003g/cc. The heat treated graphite particles are formed by hot rolling at above 300, esp. 600-1500 deg.C to produce a flexible graphite sheet or the like. |
