A portable reflectometer has a conical body with a light source at the apex and a photocell covered by an optical filter mounted coaxially at the base of the lamp housing. The filter is retained by a pressure pad of e.g. PTFE, and is protected by a transparent cover which pref. is made of polymethylmethacrylate. The design is light, robust and simple, avoiding the use of reflectors to capture the returning light.
