The grill unit is provided with a chimney which passes through the ember bed formed by the combustion element and which consists of two interconnected semi-circular shells which are mirror symmetrical in the area of their open linear contact faces but which are rounded off like hooks in their cross-sectional path with the hooks being identical in shape and lying in the same direction. When the pipe is connected together the inside and the outside of each hook adjoin each other under tension. The lower part of the pipe facing the ember bed can be provided with a peripheral row of holes which can be covered by a rotating ring with an even or uneven perforation allowing the air intake to be adjusted.
