A heat pump (2) has a condenser (4) an expansion valve (5) an evaporator (6) and a compressor (3). The compressor is driven by an internal combustion engine (1) and the evaporator draws heat from atmospheric air (7) which is blown over it. The exhaust (12) of the internal combustion engine is mixed with the air blown over the evaporator. This raises the temp sufficiently to prevent frost formation on the evaporator and also increases the thermodynamic efficiency by raising the tamp of the source. The engine cooling water (9, 10) s also used to preheat the water heated by the heat pump condenser (4).
|
