Continuous casting of metals - in horizontal mould oscillating with casting ladle at specified speed relative to strand

A continuous casting process for metals in cooled pass-through horizontal ingot moulds extracts the strand at a constant velocity but oscillates the mould along the longitudinal axis. The withdrawal speed is matched to the velocity of oscillation in such a way that the strand withdrawal speed equals the amplitude of the sinusoidal motion of the mould. This reduces the difference in the speeds to a minimum for a longer period. The resulting lower acceleration forces stresses the casting skin in the mould less severely and safeguards it against tearing. This eliminates longitudinal scoring and extends the life of the moulds. Even aluminium broze, Cu si Mn, Cu Mg etc. can now be cast continuously.
