<p>A breakerless distributor for an internal combustion engine comprises a base (10), a shaft (16, 30) adapted to be driven by an engine and extending within the base (10), a rotary member (28) rotatable by the shaft (30), an electronic means (26) cooperating with the rotary member (28) to produce timing pulses. According to one feature, the electronic means is in the form of a transmitter and sensor unit (24) removably secured in an aperture (62) in the base, the aperture being so positioned and dimensioned that the unit (24) can be removed from the base without removal of the shaft or rotary member from the base. According to a further feature, centrifugal means (40) in the form of a pair of weights is interposed between the shaft (30) and the rotary member (28) to advance the rotary member relative to the shaft as the shaft speed increases. Each weight (40) is eccentrically mounted on a respective pivot (42) on top of the rotary member (28), and a rotor assembly (18) having a central input terminal and spaced peripheral output terminals is secured to rotate with the rotary member (28) by means of a pair of screws (74) each received in a screwthreaded bore of a respective pivot (42). </p> |
