Maintaining glass filament diameter constant from melt - using a computer giving command signals to regulate temp. and drawing away speed

During the spinning from the melt of a thermoplastic material, esp. of glass, the gauge of the filaments is maintained constant. - The temp. of the material and the speed at which the filaments are drawn away are monitored and correspd. electrical signals are produced. These are transmitted to a computer for processing into command signals and are used to regulate temp. and drawing away speed in the predetermined manner. Before they are transmitted to the computer, the electrical signals corresp. to the temp. and the drawing away speed, are scanned continuously and alterations occurring between one and the following scanned signal value are transmitted subject to the limitation that each first alteration in one direction or a predetermined number of such first alterations are restricted to a predetermined minimal value. Alterations following these in the same direction are restricted to threshold values which arise each time from the preceeding threshold value in a predetermined manner. The predetermined minimal value for signal values which are diminishing is chosen differently than for increasing signal values. Each threshold value corresp. to the following alterations in the same direction arises from the one immediately preceding by increasing, it this is smaller and by diminishing when it is not smaller than the alteration appertaining to it. Used to suppress as far as possible the effects of interference on the determination of the temp. of the melt and/or winding speed, without reducing significantly the high degree of sensitivity of the measurement.
