Fibres are spun from a solution of a blend of (1) 80-90% of a copolymer of acrylonitrile with 2-10% vinyl acetate, methyl or ethyl acrylate or methacrylate, or methyl vinyl pyridine and (2) 10-20% of a copolymer of vinyl chloride with 2-10% vinyl acetate, methyl or ethyl acrylate or methacrylate or methyl vinyl pyridine, said copolymers having a common comonomer. Suitable solvents include alkaline thiocyanates, dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl methoxyacetamide, dimethyl thioformamide, dioxanone, ethylene carbonate, dimethyl sulphone, m- and p-nitrophenol, o-, m- and p-phenylene diamine and dimethyl sulphoxide. In examples, fibres are spun from solutions in dimethylacetamide of blends of vinyl acetate/acrylonitrile and vinylacetate/vinyl chloride copolymers containing dibutyl stannous maleate as heat-stabilizer.
