1412691 Recovering bacitracin COMMERCIAL SOLVENTS CORP 16 March 1973 [1 May 1972] 12774/73 Heading C3H The antibiotic bactracin is recovered from a filtered bacitracin-containing fermentation broth by adjusting the pH of the filtered broth to about pH 7, extracting the bacitracin with butanol, back-extracting the bacitracin from the butanol extract with aqueous phosphoric acid of about pH 2, bringing the pH of the phosphoric acid extract to a pH in the range of 6À0 to 7À0 with calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate, removing the resulting precipitate of calcium phosphate, concentrating the clarified bacitracin solution to about 5000 units of bacitracin per ml., and isolating the bacitracin therefrom. The bacitracin may be isolated from the final solution by evaporation or freeze drying, or by precipitation as zinc bacitracin by addition of a solution of a soluble zinc salt (e.g. zinc chloride). |
