<p>NEW MATERIAL:A phenoxypropionic acid derivative of formula I: (X is 4-trifluoromethylphenyl or 3,5-dichloro-2-pyridyl group; R1 is lower alkylene group; R2 is lower alkyl group; n is 0 or 1). EXAMPLE:2-(Ethylthio)ethyl 2-[4-(4-trifluoromethyl phenoxy) phenoxy] propionate. USE:Herbicides having excellent selective herbicidal actions on true grasses weeds, e.g. green foxtail, water foxtail, and large-crab grass, by soil and cormophytic treatments, and almost nontoxic to broadleaf crops, e.g. azuki beans, soybean, and beets. PROCESS:A phenoxypropionic acid chloride of formula II is reacted with an alcohol of formula III in the presence of an acid binder, e.g. pyridine, to give the objective compound of formula I.</p> |
